Hi Howard,
I can definitely attest that NONE of the Volatility development team will
be attending. Given a number of ongoing disagreements with SANS, with
respect to their exploitation of open source developers and their refusal
to respect the requests of those developers, the aforementioned training
and their use of Volatility is not endorsed or sanctioned by the
Volatility development team. We would hope that those who benefit from and
value the contributions of the Volatility developers would not support
those organizations that attempt to exploit those efforts for their own
self-interests. By supporting those organizations, it only disincentives
open source development.
Alternatively, the Volatility team will soon be announcing a number of new
training opportunities. These offerings will give analysts the
opportunity to learn from the actual researchers and developers, as
opposed to those attempting to regurgitate material they clearly do not
understand. It will also be an opportunity to show your support for the
open source developers who donate their time and resources into one of the
most innovative projects in the industry.
Thanks,
AAron Walters
